Jirai Kei

Jirai kei, meaning 'landmine style', is a Japanese aesthetic of dark colors, frills, and a deliberately unsettling contrast between cute and dark, emerging in the early 2020s around emotionally complex femininity and mental health themes. Sweet and melancholic layering carries it, in black or pink. Frilly details cover the garments. Long skirts fall below. Mary Janes go on the feet, with multiple necklaces and dark makeup set against the kawaii elements.
